Do you want to improve your flattering shots of people, how about changing the type of lens. A Wide angle lens has a focal length of 24mm or shorter, they allow more to fit within the image and genually keeps more of the background in focus. Downside, they can cause distortion and alter perspective. A Telephoto lens has a focal length of anything above 85mm. Due to their narrow angle of view, they can help isolate someone agaist a blurred background. Also, longer lenses facial features will be more flattering due to them being more in proportion.
